Peter Joseph Triest – An icon of charity

4,00

The name Peter Joseph Triest is heard in all parts of the world today, in places where his religious Sisters and Brothers continue the service for which he established these congregations more than 200 years ago. In the care for people with mental illness, in the support of children and asolescents with disabilities, in the care for the elderly, in the schooling and education of children, and in the care for the poor and those who no longer matter to society: these are and continue to be the preferred fields of the Sisters of Charity of Jesus and Mary, the Brothers of Charity and the Sisters of Childhood of Jesus.

We want to join them as we go back in time and take a look at the person who  started it all: Peter Joseph Triest, a Belgian priest who lived from 1760 to 1836, soon dubbed ‘the Belgian Vincent de Paul’ after he died, and whose  beatification process was initiated in 2001, which is now being examined by the Congregation for the Causes of Saints. Today, we can refer to him as a true icon of charity.
